Built to run. Built to hand over.
We build the compliance, risk or legal function, run it while the firm is most exposed, and hand it to your own team when that makes sense. Or we build in-house from day one.
Four ways to engage
Most firms start with one and move to another as they grow.
Fractional CCO
Where the firm needs James to hold SMF 16/17 directly, it is structured as part-time employment, in line with FCA expectations. James chairs committees, reports to the board and owns the function day to day. Capacity is deliberately limited.
Fractional CCO →Retainer
A standard services contract. We build and operate the compliance, risk or legal frameworks behind your own senior leader: agreed monthly hours, priority access, regulatory horizon monitoring and independent challenge.
Project
Defined scope, deliverables and timeline. Framework builds, FCA applications, gap analyses and vendor implementations.
Projects →Ad hoc
One-off questions, regulatory interpretation and policy review. No commitment required — the natural entry point.
Build, Operate, Transfer
Step 1
Build
The framework is designed and built from scratch: regulatory strategy, authorisation, SMF appointments, policies, systems and controls, risk framework, legal documentation and governance.
Step 2
Operate
We attend leadership meetings, own regulatory relationships, run the compliance calendar and make the day-to-day calls a permanent CCO, GC or CRO would make.
Step 3
Transfer
A structured handover to an internal hire, with documentation and a function already proven to work. Transfer is an option, not an obligation.
Who holds the badge is a separate question.
If your firm already has its own SMF 16/17, Build, Operate, Transfer runs entirely in support of that person.
If it doesn’t yet, James can hold the badge as a transitional leader, then hand it to an internal hire he has helped find and onboard.
The two can change independently as the firm grows. Read the full explanation →
